Trondheim Jazzforum: SIGNE EMMELUTH – BANSHEE

A banshee is a mythical creature that gives warning when death, destruction and sorrow is near via its voice and screams.
This is the starting point for this piece, of the same name written by Signe Emmeluth.
"The banshee figure is not necessarily intended as something scary and horrifying, but rather as a statement that time flies. Live life while you have it. What do we want to experience while we exist? What do we want to leave behind? Are we present in the life we are living?"
This state of the art contemporary jazz piece from the hyperactive Signe Emmeluth combines the harmonic structures of contemporary music, the thematic forms of avant-garde jazz, the insistent rhythms and trance tendencies of techno music, as well as the understanding of form of improvisational music. It sounded grumpy and greedy. An ensemble of seven musicians throws off energetic firework from which the listeners can reap the auditory fruits. Banshee was awarded with the Spellemann best Jazz album in 2024.
