- This workshop is an introduction to Chinese and Japanese calligraphy. Alice Newman(TW) and Erina Kawachi (JP) will give you a brief talk about the origins and history of this cultural and artistic practice. Then you will have a chance to learn and practice the technique with a traditional calligraphy brush.

The end result a finished calligraphy piece featuring your own name (in Japanese, Chinese, or Norwegian) or a favorite word or character you can bring home.

- Erina Kawachi (b. 1984, Japan) is an independent visual/teaching artist and printmaker. Alice Newman (b. 1988, Taiwan) is a printmaker, book binder and paper artist. Erina and Alice are both based in Trondheim.


--- Preparation for the workshop Think about a word or phrase you would like to write for your calligraphy work. This can be your own name, a quote, or meaningful word. You can translate the word ahead of time, or we can help you translate it into Japanese or Chinese at the workshop.
