Welcome to the ImproLAB with Sondre Ferstad. ImproLAB is an improvisation laboratory for artists from all disciplines and the community of movement and sound enthusiasts in Trondheim.

This two-hour workshop focuses on the element air and consequently the breathing which is equally important for both dancer and musicians as harmonica player. By creating awareness for sensing the air around and inside the body we synchronize the breath with the instrumental sounds and with each other. Listening within oneself, to diverse soundscapes by Sondre Ferstad and to other bodies in the meeting with each other will form the listening practice of the workshop and the starting point for music and dance improvisation. Musical concepts will be translated into movements during partner work while navigating in the dance space.

The ImproLAB is lead in English by dance artist Anna Thu Schmidt in collaboration with harmonica player Sondre Ferstad. The LAB includes a workshop part with set exercises and an open JAM as a playground for movement and sound exploration.

CV: Sondre Ferstad is a Norwegian jazz musician and composer, plays chromatic harmonica, and lives in a self-made tiny-house in Svartlamon, Trondheim. In 2018 he released the album “Minimal” with his own Sondre Ferstad Ensemble, where he writes music for jazz quartet and string quartet. His ensemble has toured i.a. with author Lars Saabye Christensen. Ferstad graduated from the NTNU jazz department in Trondheim in 2017. https://www.sondreferstad.com
