Welcome to the ImproLab with Heidi Skjerve and Anna Thu Schmidt on Sunday 20. November 2022 kl 17-19 at DansiT. 

ImproLab is an improvisation laboratory for artists from all disciplines and the community of movement and sound enthusiasts in Trondheim. The Lab wants to offer creative approaches to certain topics that can be explored interdisciplinary through improvisation.

In this ImproLab we will explore themes as texture, contradictions and flow through vocal sounds and movement improvisation. The interplay between sound and movement exploration serves as inspiration for new expressions.

The event includes a workshop part with set exercises followed by an open jam as a playground for diverse artistic expressions. It is a free event supported by Kulturrådet, Trondheim Kommune and DansiT. Doors open 15 minutes before the event and will be closed by the start of the event.

ImproDans Trondheim wants to offer an open, free, and safe space for movement and sound exploration and a playful approach to improvisation.

Heidi Skjerve is a versatile vocalist working in the field of jazz, contemporary music, traditional Norwegian folk music and improvised music. She studied jazz at NTNU in 1998-2002, and has since then released a number of recordings and toured with her own band projects. She has collaborated with reputable players on the Norwegian jazz scene such as John Pål Inderberg and Vigleik Storaas, resulting in a couple of critically acclaimed albums containing Norwegian folk songs and hymns played in a jazz manner. She has also composed and arranged music for choirs, small bands, string quartets and large ensembles, such as the Norwegian Air Force Band. She is one of the voices in the cutting-edge vocal ensemble Trondheim Voices, singing improvised music and commissioned works at festivals in Norway and abroad for the last 20 years. Besides working as a performing artist and composer, she also teaches jazz vocals at the Department of Music at NTNU in Trondheim.

Anna Thu Schmidt is a dance artist with a focus on dance improvisation, interdisciplinary projects, site-specific work, and integrated dance. Anna holds B.A. in Dance in Education (ArtEZ University of the Arts Arnhem/Netherlands) and M.A. in Dance Studies (NTNU Trondheim/ Norway).
