Peter Knudsen Expanding horizons - improvisational explorations of 20th-century classical music
This presentation of artistic research PhD result is part of the program for Artistic Research Forum/Artistic Research Week 2024.
Free entrance and open for all.
'Expanding Horizons' explores different ways in which musicians can approach 20th-century Western classical music through improvisation. Through selected pieces from this repertoire and practical explorations together with participating musicians, different approaches to improvising over the music have been tried out; some resulting in versions that stay close to the original pieces, while others are reimagined for the new constellations.
The concert is based on music from two albums:
All in Twilight – David Härenstam & Peter Knudsen, Daphne. (Release September 1, 2023)
Reimaginations – Peter Knudsen, Skaleidoscope Music. (Release October 15, 2024)
Together, these releases represent the wide spectrum of the project, with repertoire spanning most of the 20th century and constellations ranging from duos to a six-piece ensemble.
Musicians:
Peter Knudsen – piano
Svante Söderqvist – cello, bass, vocals
Terese Lien Evenstad – violin
David Härenstam – guitar
Jenny Kristoffersson – bass

The presentation concert also marks the official result of the second album, Reimagination. Music will be available via digital platforms, as well as via physical copies after the concert.
